CHEMICAL PEELS

A chemical peel is a derma-cosmetic procedure that consists of provoking accelerated skin regeneration in a controlled manner through application of chemexfoliation agents. 
The peeling action causes the desquamation of the superficial layers of skin. This stimulate collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycan production which enhances physiological and mechanical characteristics.

OBJECTIVES

To purify and oxygenate the skin leaving it moisturised. 
Close open pores, improve skin texture and increases the thickness of the epidermis.
Address effects of skin ageing and to soften wrinkles.
Unify skin tone, add luminosity and smooth cutaneous imperfections.
Lighten dark spots.
Reduce manifest of acne and improve appearance of scars.

CLASSIFICATIONS OF PEELS

What will be used on me?

There are 4 levels depending on its depth of action.


- 0-very superficial peels (lactic). 
- 1-superficial peels (glycolic, mandelic, salicylic)


These 2 will be used. 
- 2-medium depth peels (TCA 13% and 20% at multiple layers, TCA 30%)
- 3-deep peels (TCA 50% +very deep, phenol-only performed by dermatologists) 

What peels do I offer?
Clinicare peel treatment (suitable for combination, oily, sensitive or acne prone skin) 
Clinicare glow treatment (suitable for hyperpigmentation, not suitable for those with nut allergies)
Clinicare refresh treatment (suitable for skin rejuvenation including ageing, sun damage, fine lines and skin laxity- only one suitable for skin types 5+6)

Peels are applied for 2-7 minutes before they are neutralised and removed from the skin. 

How many treatments will I need and how often?
Normally a course of 4-6 treatments are recommended. These will be spaced 1-4 weeks apart depending on the sensitivity of the skin. 

Am I suitable for this treatment?
There may be certain medical conditions that may mean someone is not suitable however a consultation will be carried out prior to treatment. Certain peels may not be suitable for certain people. Please see “what peels do I offer” for Information on this. 

Are there any side effects? 
There may be skin redness, flushing, peeling, dryness, irritation, tightness, itching and tenderness, stinging and swelling after treatment however these resolve within a few hours. There may also be accentuated lines and wrinkles due to the dryness. 

POST TREATMENT ADVICE

The skin may peel or flake however do NOT touch the face immediately after the producer.
No make up for at least 24 hours.
Allow the skin to heal without harsh products. Use a mild cleanser with cool water. Pat dry, Do NOT rub. 
Use an intensive moisturiser/serum for at least a week.
Aerobic exercise should be avoided for 24 hours.
All heat treatments including hot showers should be avoided for 24 hours. 
Exposure to direct sunlight or UV tanning beds should be avoided for 2 weeks. 
Apply minimum SPF30 everyday even if it’s cloudy for at least 2 weeks. 
Drink lots of water. 
Do not scratch of pick skin.
Avoid exfoliants, further peeling agents, retinoids and vitamin A products for 5-7 days. 
Avoid fragranced products for 5-7 days.
